Charging Dealers Who Sell Fatal Doses of Fentanyl With Murder

Reducing fentanyl deaths

Sales of fentanyl are exploding in the US. In 2021 11.5 million pills containing fentanyl were seized by 2023 over 115 million were seized by law enforcement. Over 80,000 people died from opioids in 2022 the majority from fentanyl. Many were buying what they thought were oxycodone or benzodiazepines but instead were counterfeit pills laced with fatal doses of fentanyl. One pill and they were dead. The Federal law needs to be changed so that anyone involved in the manufacturing, distribution or sales of fentanyl or fentanyl like pills that contain fatal doses of the drug that result in death are guilty of murder and should be charged with murder, and or conspiracy to commit murder. Federal law should also be changed so that when fentanyl is seized it should be tested if any of the pills contain a fatal dose of fentanyl they are guilty of attempted murder.

This will not keep the drugs off the street but it will act as a deterrent to prevent the manufacture and sale of pills containing fatal doses of fentanyl. It will save lives.
