Anchor Dragging by Chinese ships weaken NATO's capabilities AGAIN!

Last month, two underwater cables were severed by the Chinese Bulk Carrier YiPeng3 which dragged its anchor of the vessel along the ocean floor. Neither the crew nor the captain noticed this which is highly suspect. The vessel remains in international water and refuses any form of inspection.

Why are these cables so significant?

The C-Lion cable enables secure communication and data transfer between Nordic Countries and NATO Central Command and the BC East-West Interlink that provides communication between the Baltic states and NATO aligned Sweden.

This was a low-cost low-tech way of disrupting NATO communications during a time of escalation between NATO, Russia and China.

A simple anchor can knock out communication and we must explore fail-safe communication backups. There is probably other communication and military infrastructure that are vulnerable that have not yet been attacked.

This is the second time in a year that Chinese Ships have dragged anchors in the Baltic.

In October, 2023, a Chinese ship NewNew Polar Bear dragged an anchor along the Baltic for hundreds of nautical miles and ruptured the Balticconnector gas pipeline and severed two fiber-optic cables.

It will take at least 6-8 weeks to restore communication.

What do the final months of the Biden Administration look like?

Some have commented that the Biden Administration is taking action that will escalate conflict leading to World War 3. Given a change of administrations, China and Russia believe that the policies of the US will change when President Trump returns to the White House. To that end, Russia has recently used a new hypersonic missile system against the Ukraine.

Peace Through Strength

Peace Through Strength has generally prevented escalation and that is what is needed in these dangerous times. We must also be prepared to use economic weapons to weaken our enemies including massive flooding of the oil and gas markets to weaken the Russian and Iranian economy, and tariffs to weaken the Chinese economy. Many of these are tactics and strategies that are being developed by President Trump to execute as he takes office in January.

Waking up the Sleeping Giant

America has always been a sleeping giant that is slow to wake up but once woken is the most dangerous force on the face of the earth. The time to wake up is now.

Political division must be replaced by unity against a geopolitical threat by China, Russia, Iran and North Korea. Our alliances must be strengthened, and our allies need to know that we have their backs.

Learning Lessons

The United States and NATO must carefully analyze and correct their vulnerabilities. They must also make sure that we have credible defenses or equally destructive missile systems to counteract Russia’s newest one.

We should view this cable destruction as not an isolated incident and pay closer attention to China and Russia. The US has urged European countries not to buy cables from Chinese manufacturers. Subsea communications and other gas and oil infrastructure continue to be at risk until these European countries share more intelligence and invest in redundancies.
