Political Pressure Yields Results - Bridgeport and Commuters Benefit
We did not win at the ballot box - but we are winning (just a little bit)
With less than one week in office, President Trump has made major strides. But what about the impact to a Blue State like Connecticut that is not just blue on the license plate?
I entered the race to challenge Jim Himes on several issues: Healthcare, I-95 and to a plethora of Promises Made/ Promises Broken. Today we will focus on 2 of them I-95 and Broken Promises - Especially in Bridgeport.
We campaigned hard and we made an impact despite a loss. So does the adage to the victor goes the spoils ring true? In this election, the answer is NO as We The People of Connecticut benefited from a challenger like me. Connecticut is getting some help on the federal level due to the pressure (which I am sure will be denied by Jim and the rest of the Democrat representation in Washington).
Let’s start with 95.
We put out messages all the time every time I was stuck on the way to one of the 17 towns in my district. We were frustrated that a 30 mile trip would take anywhere from 1-2 hours and then 35 minutes on the way home. My son wrote a song about it and some of the lines “95 will move, our schools will improve…vote Mike, you have to vote for Mike….tell Himes to take a hike.”

Right before the election, suddenly work began on I-95 and not that divider nonsense. Yonkers Contracting began work on the exit ramps from Greenwich to Stamford to fix the On and Off Ramps so that one of the 3 lanes would go back to being a lane in use rather than turning a 3 lane highway (on each side) into 2. This literally happened a week from the election. Coincidence I think Not. Putting Pressure on Our Elected Officials is critical to making progress.
90% of this $76 million for the I-95 project was being funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal. The plans were drawn up in 2019 as part of a reconstruction project but they magically broke ground just before the election.
Promise Made/ Promises Broken
One major focus of our campaign was Bridgeport. One Issue, the Congress Street Bridge.
You might have seen this short reel
It was a promise Jim Himes made in 2008 on his campaign to fix. We went to that bridge, we talked to residents and 16 years later - No Bridge. Well magically, this year, 17 years later, the Bridge was finally approved and funded. Who was at this historic event? Jim Himes, Senator Richard Blumenthal, Senator Chris Murphy (and Mayor Joe Ganim.
So I say, we must continue to be active and put pressure and we will get results. It just may take a little longer in Connecticut. Do not give up. I am not!
