Reflecting on Father’s Day
Yesterday, I spent Father’s Day doing what I wanted to do as it is the one day that all fathers get a break from their wives. I am in the primary fight to challenge Jim Himes. Every day we are out there meeting potential voters which is important, but having fun is critical to my campaign.
We went out and we campaigned. We went to a car show and a rally and then we went out for dinner. I did fit a trip into Costco (more for a happy wife/happy life insurance plan) and talked to some voters even at Costco loading up for the father’s day cookouts.
This campaign is a family affair spending time with my children, sometimes on the trail and always at family dinners and other functions. Talking to voters, whether they’re Republican, Democrat, affiliated or not yet registered the message is clear that family is incredibly important, and even now more than ever.
It was fun to spend the day in New Canaan checking out some really cool, classic and new cars, American and imported. It’s nice when people come up to you and thank you for taking the chance to run for office. Being at a car show, which is incredibly American to me, it is symbolic of our American roots that a dream and perseverance can lead to a new nation and inspire creativity that has resulted in some amazing achievements such as the American Automobile Industry. We here in Connecticut also inspired the American Space industry and were critical in putting a man on the moon and developing telescopes to see what is beyond Earth.
Today, it is unfortunate that those cars all run on premium fuel and it’s even expensive to participate in a car show as most participants came from far and wide. However, plenty of people came out with their carbureted or fuel injected cars and motorcycles to have a good time. It was a high-octane Caffeine & Carburetors Car Show for me to get energized and enjoy a beautiful Sunday.
This campaign has been all about getting back to Faith, Family and Country and meeting voters at their level and the issues that matter to them. When they see I am a doctor, we keep hearing about incredible health costs and I talk about how I can make a difference as a physician and former medical society president.
I’ve been tested by medical societies. I’ve been battle tested by insurance companies. I have also been battle tested by my patients. The one constant response is that everybody wants a Doctor in the House. Last week there were hearings with Dr. Fauci and Representative McCormick, who is a veteran and physician. He was able to really put some light onto the healthcare issues created by the pandemic. Without physicians in Congress, especially conservative ones that are more likely to stand up for health and medical freedom, this country is doomed. Too many physicians succumbed to pressure and fear during the pandemic.
I know that together we can win in August at the primary and take on my democrat opponent in November. We can make health and wellness more cost-effective and reduce unnecessary administrative burdens. Covid created one of the greatest mental and physical health crises that we will be paying for over the next decade or longer. I know that we can end this crisis quicker by bringing awareness, identifying issues earlier, restoring parental rights and reducing fentanyl at the border. These deaths by fentanyl must be stopped. Having Narcan available is helpful but it is not the solution as so little fentanyl is lethal.
We also have to make life affordable again, which is one of the major causes of mental health and other addictive behaviors as the oppressive nature of inflation at the gas pumps and the grocery stores coupled with the increased healthcare and pharmaceutical costs stress our families in ways they are not prepared for. This state and our country are riddled with increase costs and jobs are not adjusting to the new demand on inflation as many of these employers are struggling as well. This inflation and energy is another main issue for Nutm
eggers as it deters the reboot to our manufacturing industries while our defense contractors of Sikorsky have laid off employees. A change in economic climate is needed to make Connecticut attractive again to new business.
To all of you who are fathers and grandfathers I hope you had a wonderful Father’s Day. Good luck on your new honey-do-lists as you return from your reprieve. Please remember to come out and vote on August 13th with early voting August 5-11. Please reach out as well with your ideas and issues. Together we can make a difference. Your support and enthusiasm for me, my family and the campaign is inspiring to me. This is the fuel that moves me, my family and our campaign.
Have a great start to your week and please see my website www.goldsteinforcongress.com for more info or reach out here.
Thanks
Dr. Mike
