Tax Free Overtime for Physicians and Other Healthcare Providers

Incentivizing a Working Economy - Just like Overtime and Tips

Former President Donald Trump has proposed that overtime work be tax free.

This must also be applied to physicians and other healthcare providers who see patients after or before their 8 hour shift or office schedule.

This proposal would immediately improve access to healthcare after business hours.

This proposal would also incentivize more nurses and CNAs to take a longer shift to make up the incredible nursing and CNA shortage and make their overtime more meaningful when the physicians they work with ask them to stay late or make plans to stay late in advance.

From my own practice, regardless of overtime, staff normally abhors working late as the incentives without a tax benefit are not enough - and I often found myself the last man standing. Incentives across the board would have a meaningful impact for patients and the healthcare industry

In this proposal, Healthcare providers would be paid the same fees after hours but the income would be tax free which is a huge incentive. Patients would benefit from increased access to care and because the fees would be the same after hours as there would be no increase in healthcare costs.

Patients would be less likely to go to more expensive Emergency Department or Urgent Center care where care tends to be impersonal. This would reduce healthcare costs.

This is a great and very simple idea to improve healthcare and reduce healthcare costs.

Hats off to President Trump for trying to really kickstart and incentivize a stronger labor force - let’s just incentivize it across all professions, especially to healthcare where there is increased burnout and lives are at stake.
